Canva is more popular than ever. And that is no coincidence. Schools, companies and start-ups can get to work with it for free or cheaply. It is accessible, intuitive and looks good. More and more marketing teams are finding their way to this design platform. It is also the first time I have seen a new platform take a place in the design and marketing world. I believe Canva is securing a permanent place alongside existing design programmes.
With Canva anyone can create their own online design. From brochures and social media ads to presentations. Canva is therefore increasingly finding its place in the marketing world. It works fast. Looks professional. And you do not need extensive design knowledge for it. That makes it attractive.
Will Canva push existing competitors out of the market? I do not see Adobe, Office365 and Google Workspace disappearing any time soon. Graphic designers, the ‘heavy users', remain loyal. Yet they too switch over smoothly when a client asks for something in Canva. A handy co-working functionality. Designers create on-brand templates that marketers can get to work with for social media, flyers, headers, … And the designer no longer has to fill in the templates themselves. More time for more important designs. For marketers, or the ‘light users', the switch is easier. Canva is cheaper, faster and less complex.
We do not see Canva as a threat to PowerPoint. Rather as a complement, or better still: an opportunity. For teams without in-house designers, for smaller projects or temporary communication, Canva is perfectly usable.
But for larger projects, strategic pitches or corporate communication, PowerPoint remains the tool to guarantee consistency, interactivity and impact.
Canva is gaining in popularity. But PowerPoint is and remains the worldwide standard for business presentations. The corporate world stays loyal to PowerPoint, precisely because they can do more with it and because many companies work with Office365. Light users find in Canva a user-friendly alternative.
Canva is setting its sights on the future. So are we. That is why we offer Canva Support. We support businesses in choosing the right subscription, the set-up, training and creating easily editable templates.
